What’s New In Borel Park San Mateo

San Mateo boasts many amazing parks and outdoor spaces. Nestled in the heart of the town is Borel Park San Mateo, a hidden gem providing a respite from the pressures of everyday life. It is San Mateo’s first brand-new park since the early 2000s; hence, its opening made way for an exciting celebration. The neighborhood park’s 1.15 acres of undeveloped land gave way to two play spaces for kids aged 2 to 5 and 5 to 12. Residents have long pushed to preserve the natural environment. They wanted to see an open space, a playground, and walking pathways in the new construction. The project cost about $2.8 million, combining city, state, and federal funds. Despite its intrusive construction, it was a well-received development, as it proved a worthy investment, especially during the pandemic.

Drew Corbett, the city manager of San Mateo, praised the community and all parties involved. He thanked them for putting up with the years of work in the vicinity of the middle school gym, the fire station, and the park.

How To Get To Borel Park San Mateo

Borel Park San Mateo is a highly anticipated wide open space providing nature-themed playgrounds, scenic walking trails, and shaded structures. It is at the corner of Shafter St & Barneson Ave. For a more detailed landmark, you can find it north of the brand-new Fire Station 25 and southwest of Borel Middle School. The brand-new buildings link to a sidewalk along Shafter Street. It transformed a previously vacant area into a popular spot for the Borel neighborhood. The park and playgrounds are part of the Fire Station 25 relocation project. It includes moving the historic station from its previous position at 545 Barneson Avenue to the intersection of Borel Avenue and Shafter Street. This change provided additional room for firefighters’ sleeping quarters, a kitchen and dining area, a workout facility, and more equipment storage.
